What does God really want from us?

I’m in a life-transition phase and trying to figure out what God wants me to do. I want to fully surrender to Him and trust His plans for me (Eph 2:8-10).  As much as I pray about, God has not simply told me what I should be doing.

Of course, the Ten Commandments tell us what we shouldn’t be doing.  And in our church’s confirmation class, the pastor puts the positive side of those commandments, which is a really cool insight that I’ll get to in another post.

Jesus also tells us a couple other important things we shouldn’t do:

“Don’t be afraid” – many verses – not actually 365 but it’s alot!

“Don’t be anxious” – Philippians 4:4-9

What are some other ways we can know what God wants us to be doing?

What actually is God’s will?

The short answer is right there, very specifically, in 1 Thessalonians 5:

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

So that’s one of the first things we should do.

I’ve always thought that’s kind of vague, and I think human nature makes it quite difficult because those are kinda abstract thoughts.  .  I want some details…like what am I supposed to do in a tangible manner?

Here’s a more tangible task. It’s actually a command. The first and greatest commandment comes from Jesus in Matthew 22:37-38.

“Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.”

That is pretty straight forward! And can be really difficult too.

Here is another command, right from Jesus in John 13:34-35.

34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

So those are three big ones, right?

The Bible has alot of great knowlege and insights. There is so much more to all of this!

For now, I’m just gonna keep it simple.

  1. ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
  1. Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
  1. Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances

I hope you have a blessed day and know God’s Peace that is beyond human understanding.
